Colas holds an extensive portfolio of capability and experience delivering all highways civil engineering requirements, focussed on a true “fence to fence” highways solution.

Our diverse range of services include public realm improvements, junction improvements, car parks - including park and ride facilities, footways, cycleways and other infrastructure for non-motorised users, carriageway construction and surfacing, drainage improvements, Vehicle Restraint Systems (VRS), street lighting, signalisation and more.

Highways civil engineering projects

We deliver high quality civil engineering projects across the UK utilising a wealth of knowledge and experience gained nationally and internationally. We work closely with you to identify each scheme’s individual requirements with regard to programming, procurement, project delivery and public liaison.

Surfacing

We provide a full contracting service for surface treatments and surfacing solutions. We deliver highly durable, quality surfacing and operate in-house laboratories ensuring compliance and consistency, as well as innovations developed both here in the UK and at our Colas group R&D centre. Our solutions include conventional products as well as numerous proprietary systems, along with our range of specialist treatments.

Defence estate projects

We work with defence clients such as the Ministry of Defence, DIO, Qinetiq, Interserve, Aspire and BAE Systems. These projects involve working in high security areas and we understand the sensitive nature and implications of these schemes’ locations as well as the need for retaining operational access during these projects.

Section 278

Colas is experienced, accredited and recognised for its work with local authorities and developers, assisting with the development and delivery of adoptable infrastructure. As a highly accredited NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) contractor we work collaboratively to execute the requirements of Section 278 and Section 38 works within urban and rural environments.

Street lighting

We work closely with our ITS department to provide street lighting and traffic signals infrastructure on your highways projects. By using our in-house electrical experts, you are provided with better value for money, efficient programming and well-managed schemes. You benefit from our innovative approach that can provide latest thinking and an improved environmental impact.

Winter maintenance

Our winter maintenance services include all the UK’s climatic conditions, from high, trans-Pennine routes to low level urban coastal regions. We have the capability and resources to provide winter maintenance including proactive planning for disruptive weather conditions, gritting and reactive winter maintenance. We work in partnership with you to plan and deliver effective winter campaigns to keep your end users safe. 

Vehicle Restraint Systems (VRS)

As a national highways sector scheme (NHSS) accredited company we design, supply, install and maintain our in-house EN1317 approved proprietary system (AxiBeam) as well as all other proprietary and Non-proprietary systems in steel and concrete across the UK for Highways England and Local Authorities.

Structures, repairs and maintenance

Colas is experienced in delivering structural works including concrete repairs, installation of steel framed buildings, piling, bridge repair and maintenance and fabrication works.
