Since the introduction of T-Levels in 2020, Colas has partnered with local colleges to facilitate placements, enriching the students’ learning and supporting their transition into the workplace. By collaborating with colleges, we have introduced tailored placements that provide students with practical experience in a real-world setting.
A number of students have recently joined us for their placements, developing their skills in real work environments across various sectors. At our Products centre in Warrington, one student is halfway through their placement in the Engineering department, gaining insights into different types of engineering by shadowing maintenance engineers and taking on practical tasks. The Harlow STC team has welcomed two students who completed a two-week placement in June and have returned to continue their development through eight-week placements, with one student working alongside the civil engineering team, and another working in the quantity surveying department, deepening their understanding of operations. Additionally, three Design, Surveying, and Planning students are currently contributing to the A38 Bromsgrove project, applying their classroom knowledge to a real-world project site, while two more students are engaged in Area 9— with one student working alongside the quantity surveying team, and another focused on business administration tasks.
These placements not only help our students develop the specific skills needed to thrive in the sector, but also allow our business to benefit from their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, ultimately driving growth and success for both our team and the students.
