Manchester Airport Taxiway Reconstruction

In recent weeks, Colas recently completed the reconstruction of Alpha Bravo taxiway at Manchester Airport (MAN) as part of the Manchester Airport Group (MAG) Framework.

Allied Infrastructure, part of the Colas Group, carried out the reconstruction of this critical section of the airfield which included AGL removal, PQC bay replacement, reinforcement mesh installation, asphalt inlay & overlay reinstatement of AGL, line markings, increased drainage levels and earthworks regrade.

Manchester Airport serves over 27 million passengers each year, offering commercial flights to over 200 destinations, as well as freight-only aircrafts. As one of the busiest airports in the UK, it was vital to find an effective approach that delivered the work with minimal disruption to the airport’s operations.

After extensive planning, and utilising expert-driven methodology, the team completed the project during a four-week taxiway closure, with diversion routes implemented to ensure uninterrupted scheduled flights. Operating on a tight schedule, the team operated through a combination of day and night works, to return this critical section back into service ready for the busy, Easter holiday schedule.
